Residents of Villa Mella denounce streets in poor condition due to subway expansion; the plugs continue

Santo Domingo.- Residents and community of Villa Mellain Santo Domingo Norte, denounced this Saturday the deterioration of their streetswhich remain full of dust, mudand destroyed due to the jobs of extension of the Metro of S.D..

The main vehicular routes in the area not only face severe blockages, but also avenues in deplorable conditions. Merchants They assure that this situation has caused a considerable reduction in their sales.

“It’s a great fuck everywhere because they are building on that side. Since they started the subway work, people stopped buying because my products get dusty and don’t come. But imagine, this is what I live for,” said a saleswoman who did not want to give her name.

Fermín Aguilar, a resident for more than 20 years, stated that the lack of organization in the work is what allowed the slowness of the work: “Imagine, they make a column there, then another here… I don’t see the point in what they are doing,” he explained.

Another problem that complicates daily life is the kilometer-long traffic that is recorded at all hours. Pablo Román, motoconchista, affirms that the situation directly affects his livelihood.

“It has become very difficult for anyone. Between the gasoline, the plugs and the dust, the little you get doesn’t work,” Esteban Javier, motochoncho.

Metro expansion work progresses slowly

Regarding the expansion of the Metro, those interviewed assure that the work should have been completed a long time ago.

“They should have finished that work a long time ago,” said Mr. Fermín Aguilar when questioned.

Meanwhile, everyday life becomes impassable on the only route where hundreds of people travel to their homes, jobs and educational centers.

“The traffic jams here have become very long. There have always been, but since they are building the subway the streets have become chaotic. Not even motorists are safe,” exclaimed another resident.

In March 2024, President Luis Abinader gave the first push for the extension of two more stations line 1 in addition to Mama Tingó, mainly for the benefit of the residents of Punta de Villa Mella and San Felipe, whose population has grown considerably

The project seeks to improve Santo Domingo’s transportation system by adding nearly 2.5 km in length, facilitating the lives of thousands of users who daily use the subway to move quickly and economically. For this reason, the community members demand promptness with the delivery of the work.
