SAN LUIS POTOSÍ, Mexico.- This Sunday, residents of the Versalles Popular Council, in Matanzas, had to take charge of the transfer of the bread to the wineries, a fact that was celebrated with an air of triumph on the social networks of the Government of that province.

“Faced with the problem of transporting bread to the warehouses, popular participation is necessary as an alternative,” the Facebook page of that town posted optimistically, indicating that the lack of transport prevented the product from being moved from one place to another.

In the 9th district of Versailles, the Cubans, together with María Mercedes Ruiz Alonso, delegate of the area, pushed a wheelbarrow to take the product from the bakery to their respective warehouses.

“This is the attitude of the Council delegates. At the moment, everyone is immersed in the solution of each difficulty,” the note stressed.

The fuel shortage complicates an already gloomy panorama, marked by the shortage of flour to make the product and by the reduction in its grammage, news that has not been welcomed by the people.

Now, it is up to the citizens to find a solution to a problem that the Government is unable to resolve.

The information related to one of the basic foods for families, mainly for breakfast and school snacks, has been disastrous in recent days.

Since September 12, the weight of the bread newspaper that is distributed per person as part of the basic basket In Cuba it was reduced to 60 grams, 20 grams less than usual.

This measure, announced by the Ministry of the Food Industry (Minal), has been presented as a “solution” to address the shortage of flour affecting the country.

“The bread in the standard family basket will have a variation in its weight and price, in order to maintain its production in the face of the lack of flour in the country,” said Anayra Cabrera Martínez, general director of Industrial Policy at Minal. Cabrera pointed out that the new weight of the bread will be 60 grams and its cost 75 cents.

Despite statements promising that the reduction in weight will not affect quality, Cubans perceive this measure as another attempt by the regime to disguise its inability to resolve the deep economic crisis that the country is experiencing.

Flour shortages, logistical difficulties and constant improvisation are symptoms of a system that fails to offer effective solutions and that worsens the situation of a population already exhausted by the lack of food, medicine and basic resources.
