Residents of Gibara protest against the blackouts, while the electrical deficit does not give improvement signs

Residents of Gibara They went out to protest against the blackouts on Saturday night, in a fact that went viral on social networks and was confirmed by the authorities of that town of Holguín.

The protest was starred in neighbors of the Gibareña del Güirito community, which “affected by the complex electro-energy situation left the homes to express their disagreements,” according to A publication of the local telecentro.

The official note points out that the claims took place “from a position of respect and dialogue,” and reviews that “the authorities went to answer the questions and exchange about it.”

In addition, the media denounced “the attempts of some users” of social networks – to which he located mostly outside the island – to “manipulate and politicize this situation”, and said that the Gibareños “are noble, courageous and revolutionary people, with sufficient capacity not to be dragged by inciters and false profiles on Facebook or another ‘social’ network.”

Publications and videos of the protest had previously circulated in the networks. In them there are numerous people walking around the town – some with their face covered – while demanding electricity and sounding cacerolazos, and others observe their march and film them with cell phones.

Slogans are also heard such as “the united people will never be defeated” and in A video A group of people claims to some police officers trying to stop the protest.

The official publication does not refer to the police action or possible detained for these facts. Instead, it shows an image of authorities dialoguing with residents in a well -lit environment, and photos of the city after that exchange, with no one in the streets and light in several places.

Bag peak

The protest in Gibara took place in the middle of a new peak of blackouts in the country and the recent fall of the Nictional Electrical System (SEN), the fifth in less than a year.

Even if SEN could be restored In just over a day, the energy panorama has not improved, which translates into long hours of electric cuts throughout the country, even for more than one day.

After a maximum affectation of almost 2000 MW on Fridaythis Saturday the deficit climbed until 1852 MW and today at 6:00 am was already 1265 MW. The reason for these high numbers is low availability, beaten by the disconnection of several generating units.

During yesterday, according to The Electric Union (UNE), synchronized three thermal blocks, including Unit 3 of the Cienfuegos Thermoelectric.

Even so – despite the contribution of the new solar parks – for this noon the official prognosis indicates an affectation of 1250 MW, which at night will scale up to 1775 MW, a figure similar to the availability planned for that time slot.

For that time, the UNE foresees the entrance of the Mariel Fuel Oil Motor Central with 105 MW, but seven thermal units will continue to be disconnected, while 366 MW will cease to occur due to limitations of the plants in operation and about 200 MW for lack of fuel and lubricants.

In this scenario, the blackouts must continue to hit Cubans strongly, affecting the economy and daily life, and fed the understandable social discomfort that has triggered protests such as those on Saturday in Gibara.
