Although the scene caused laughter among those in attendance, for many it was also a mirror of the harsh social reality.
News Colombia.
The Reign of La Chapolera, one of the most representative and anticipated events of the Armenian Festivities, ended with a scene that mixed surprise, humor and social reflection. In the middle of the coronation ceremony, held in the Plaza de Bolívar, a homeless resident burst onto the catwalk and captured everyone’s attention.
The event, which commemorates the coffee tradition and exalts the culture of Quindío, was developing normally when the unexpected model climbed onto the stage and began to walk freely, making turns and poses as if he were part of the contest. Between screams, laughter and applause, he paraded down the catwalk.
The presenter of the event, surprised by the scene, asked the authorities for immediate support. “We please ask for the support of the Police on the catwalk,” he said into the microphone, while the man jumped off the stage, leaving behind an atmosphere of confusion and divided comments.

What happened opened debate about the social reality in Armenia
For some, the episode was a funny anecdote, an unexpected moment that broke the formality of the night. However, others saw it as a crude reflection of the social reality that the capital of Quindío is experiencing. On social networks, the opinions did not take long to multiply:
“A sample of the biggest problems facing the city,” wrote one user.
“How sad to see this in the city,” commented another.
“Absolute shame. A reflection of what the city is thanks to the rulers and authorities who are conspicuous by their absence,” criticized another Internet user.
The messages agreed that the event, beyond humor, showed the “social fracture” and the abandonment of the central areas of Armenia, where substance consumption and homelessness have become part of the daily landscape.
The Reign of La Chapolera, which sought to exalt the beauty, history and folklore of the region, ended up leaving a message deeper than any speech: the urgent need to look squarely at the inequalities and social challenges that are also part of the city’s identity.
