According to a statement issued by the resident team, the decision was made due to the lack of detailed information about the event. “We did not have much knowledge of the event, beyond that a television channel was inviting him to play in the square,” the statement said. In addition, the artist suggested that, instead of allocating a considerable sum of money to this concert, it would be more productive to invest those resources in supporting Colombian artists and local culture.

Cancellation occurs in the midst of a controversy related to the cost of the event. Recent reports indicate that the “concert of hope” would have a cost close to 4,000 million pesos, of which approximately 2.1 billion were allocated to the resident cache. This figure generated criticism from some sectors, who questioned the relevance of such a high expense in the middle of the country’s current fiscal situation.
The councilor of Bogotá, Daniel Briceño, was one of the main critics of the event, noting that, in the midst of a fiscal crisis, it was not appropriate to allocate almost 4,000 million pesos to a concert. “The concert of the hope of Petro and Hollman Morris paid by all Colombians through RTVC will cost us $ 3,965,523,131. The resident will charge $ 2,185,000,000 and the rest will go in the production of the event, ”said Briceño in his social networks.
