The Attorney General’s Office (FGR) reported that the investigation of the derailment of the Interoceanic Train last Sunday continues, and that there is “progress” in the extraction of the black box of the locomotive.

Likewise, he confirmed that, as President Claudia Sheinbaum announced on Tuesday, the federal government will seek independent international certification before fully resuming passenger service on the affected track, and in parallel, the Rail Transportation Regulatory Agency will carry out its own report on the accident under international protocols.

In a brief statement, on Wednesday the prosecutor’s office pointed out that “the field work of specialized experts and police elements, led by FGR agents, continues in order to integrate the investigation folder to clarify what happened in the Interoceanic Corridor.”

As a result of said work, he added, “progress has been reported in terms of interventions regarding the extraction of the black box of the locomotive, lifting of the damaged unit and carrying out expert reports, among other actions.”

He noted that “personnel assigned to the Specialized Regional Control Prosecutor’s Office have maintained communication and coordinated work with different federal, state and local institutions involved in the actions, with the clear objective of advancing the investigation plan.”

He stressed that priority is given to the “comprehensive repair of the damage to those affected, in close coordination with the Executive Commission for Attention to Victims, so that it is investigated in accordance with the law.”

He explained that in coordination with the Criminal Investigation Agency “the bodies of the deceased have been delivered to their relatives, in addition to already having various reports on the events, such as an external inspection of the damaged passenger cars.”

It indicates that it has also carried out “expert service work in the preparation of technical opinions, obtaining various certificates and photographic evidence, vehicle identification, causality of events, right of way, video recording of people, places and objects, as well as autopsy studies, among others.”

The FGR stressed that “it will continue to report in a timely manner on the progress of the work and reiterates its commitment to the victims and to the seriousness and objectivity of the investigation.”
