Requirements to donate blood in Mexico

This day also represents an opportunity for the government, in conjunction with blood donor organizations and other non-governmental organizations, to improve and expand voluntary blood donor programs, strengthening national and local campaigns.

What do I need to donate blood

The Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS) indicates that donors must comply with the following:

3. Weight greater than 50 kilograms.

4. Fasting for a minimum of four hours (avoid eating foods with fat 24 hours before the donation). During the four hours of fasting you can only eat juices, fruits (except bananas, mamey and avocado), tea, black coffee and stay hydrated.

5. Do not exceed fasting hours.

6. Have not been sick with the flu, cough, diarrhea or dental infection in the last 14 days.

7. Have not taken medication in the last five days.

8. Have not undergone endodontic treatment, acupuncture, or had tattoos or piercings in the last 12 months.

9. Not having been operated on in the last six months.

10. Not having been vaccinated in the last 30 days.

11. Not having consumed alcoholic beverages in the 72 hours prior to the donation.

12. If you have high blood pressure and it is controlled or monitored, you may be a candidate for donation.
