The Colombian Foreign Ministry announced that it reached an agreement with the government of Mexico to facilitate the migration of Colombians seeking to enter this country

According to figures from Migración Colombia, from January to September 2022, 21,829 nationals were denied entry to Mexico, while in the same period of 2021 5,238 had been registered and the year ended with 9,695 Colombians rejected in that country.
In fact, complaints from citizens have increased, who, in addition to not being admitted, claim to be victims of mistreatment by Mexican immigration authorities.

1. The Government of Mexico will guarantee Colombian travelers subject to second review and/or non-admission, the right to communicate by telephone with their relatives and with the respective Colombian Consulate, and to receive a copy of the certificate with the reasons for non-admission.
2. The Government of Mexico undertakes to make the corresponding consular notification in a timely manner, in the event that Colombian travelers so request, in order to keep the Colombian authorities duly informed about the processes of non-admission of their nationals.
3. The Mexican immigration authority will maintain the non-admission rooms in adequate conditions.
4. The Government of Colombia undertakes to widely reinforce the dissemination of the requirements that, based on current national legislation, the Government of Mexico requires to enter its territory.
5. The Mexican immigration authority undertakes to review and investigate the complaints filed by Colombian nationals, in order to provide adequate treatment to travelers.
6. Mexico and Colombia undertake to make improvements to optimize the operation of the Pre-registration, so that it is a more accessible platform for all types of Colombian traveler and/or tourist, with the purpose of fulfilling its objective: to facilitate entry and reduce non-admissions of Colombians to Mexico.
Requirements to enter Mexico
What documents are required?
Although Colombians do not need a visa to enter Mexico for a stay of less than 180 days, they must present a valid and current passport, and carry out a mandatory pre-registration.

What does the mandatory pre-registration consist of?
From April 1, 2022, the person must fill out a form, which is available at the following link. You will then receive a QR code and the Multiple Migration Form (FMM), documents that you must present printed to the migration agents upon arrival in Mexico.
Does pre-registration have any cost?
No, there is no cost. It is recommended to have on hand the return ticket to Colombia and the printed lodging reservation.
What information is requested in the pre-registration?
1. Data of a contact from the country of origin and another from the country of destination (name and telephone).
2. Valid passport (Mexico requires a minimum validity of 6 months).
3. Reservation of the place where you are going to stay or proof of address, in case you have a family member or acquaintance in Mexico.
4. Ticket to leave the country (air, sea or land).
5. Travel itinerary (document describing the activities to be carried out during your stay in the country ordered by day and place).
6. If you are a resident in Mexico, temporary or permanent resident card.
“All this documentation must be digitized and saved in JPG, PNG or PDF format (maximum size 2MB) to upload them to the platform in the section to attach documents,” recalls the Mexican government.
