“We urge the White House to work with private technology companies to provide internet to Cuba. There are no excuses because the technology is there,” said Salazar, who represents the Miami city district, a symbol of Cuban exile in the United States. .
For his part, Republican legislator Mario Díaz-Balart, the son of Cuban parents, assured that Biden is “missing in action” at the moment, for which he asked him to “be on the right side of history,” that is, “next to the Cuban people.”
Rubio, Salazar and Díaz-Balart were accompanied at that press conference by almost twenty more legislators, including Senator Rick Scott, who also represents the state of Florida, and members of the Lower House, such as Carlos Giménez, from Florida, and Pat Fallon, from Texas, among others.
After quelling protests across the country, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez spoke in a Facebook interview of the United States’ “failed operation” to sell an “unreal image” of his country.
