Havana Cuba. — A new segment has reached the pages of CubaNet to contribute to justice being done when the inevitable democratic change materializes in Cuba. “The repressors of the regime” is the title of this brief space through which, in a systematic way, the faces and true identity of several State Security agents who are dedicated to harassing, threatening and beating both opponents and as independent activists and journalists.
The purpose is not only to denounce, but to offer a description of the personality of each henchman and their main traits in order to identify as many Cubans as possible involved in repressive activities, whether civilian or military. For this, the testimonies of the victims are being very useful, helping to compose a memory file that does not prescribe.
The first chapter of this series was dedicated to Lieutenant Colonel Kenya María Morales Larrea, known for her despotism and cruelty. The military also presents herself as a police instructor at Villa Marista, the headquarters of State Security, famous and feared for the flagrant violations of human rights that are committed there, including torture. Morales Larrea was closely linked to the repression against members of the San Isidro Movement and other activists who took part in the events in front of the Ministry of Culture in November 2020 and January 2021.
The most recent installment of “The repressors of the regime” revealed the identity of the agent “Luisito”, whose real name is Ariel Arnau Grillet, a notorious henchman who has taken part in several operations against the Ladies in White, and has been described as “ the most undesirable repressor on the face of the earth”.
Insolent, aggressive and prone to abuse of power, he could be classified in the group of violent repressors, generally destined to confront those who take to the streets, fundamentally activists. Ariel Arnau has been unmasked thanks to the investigations and the courage of his victims, who have not hesitated to speak out.
More revelations will come about the men and women who coerce and mistreat their fellow men in the name of a dictatorship that, just for now, offers them impunity. But that won’t last much longer.
Regardless of how often agents change, timely observation, the ability to listen to their threats without losing their composure and, above all, understand the fair scope of their rights violations during so-called “interviews” are essential for the day when, finally, justice is done.
