The representative of the Ancón district, Yamireth Batista, has filed a complaint with the Public Prosecutor’s Office for the elimination and destruction of crucial information from the Communal Board. According to Batista, the hard drives of the computers in the accounting, finance and human resources areas were stolen or formatted. In addition, the destruction of important documents is reported, including the appearance of bags with shredded papers.
Batista expressed her concern about the impact that this loss of information has had on the functioning of the Communal Board. “We have filed the corresponding complaint and the authorities will subsequently follow up on it,” said the representative.
One of the most significant effects of the lack of information has been the inability to submit the June report, which is necessary to receive a monthly disbursement of $65,000 from the Municipality of Panama. This lack of funds is affecting the Community Board’s ability to offer essential services to the community.
“Without having this information, we have had to compile inventories of assets, rental properties and vehicles,” Batista added.
The representative described the situation as “chaos” and noted that her team has had to start from scratch with limited resources. Despite the challenges, Batista expressed confidence that the team is moving forward with what they have.
Local authorities have begun investigating the incident in order to identify those responsible and restore the functionality of the Community Council.
