MIAMI, United States. — As usually happens on important historical dates in Cuba, the anniversary of the death of José Martí on May 19 brought with it a new representation of the figure of the Apostle, incarnated by a young man during a cultural event held in the town of Dos Ríos , Granma province.
Although it is not the first time that representations of José Martí have been held locally, on this occasion the event had greater prominence on social networks, generating ridicule among Cubans inside and outside the island.
The images of the representation of the Apostle were shared by officials from that town, who praised the staging of the ceremony, which was attended by authorities from the municipality of Jiguaní.
The photos They show “Martí” riding a white horse, also walking through the crowd and being supported by other young people while they dramatized his fall in combat.
“Beautiful and worthy tribute to the most universal of all Cubans. To the teacher, to the great thinker. Today, carried out by the children, the fall in combat of José Martí in Dos Ríos on May 19, 1895 was recalled. Death is not true when the work of life has been well accomplished ”, he pointed out in Facebook Jiguaní Health Directorate.
Last year, young people from the province of Santiago de Cuba staged in the Callejón del Muro a representation of the death of Frank País that also generated endless reactions on social networks.
The performance included a young man lying face down on the ground simulating the image of the clandestine fighter after being killed. The images went viral on the Internet, giving rise to the #FrankCountryChallenge.
That tribute to Frank País was attended by the vice president of the Cuban regime, Ramiro Valdés.
On Twitter, the hashtag #FrankPaísChallenge became popular and was used by numerous users to ridicule the Cuban authorities.
