The Minister of the Interior, Nicolás Martinelli, presented the crime records for the year 2024 and reported that the number of robberies decreased by 22%; cattle rustlers, 19.5%; thefts, 5.7% and homicides, 1%, compared to the previous year. In the presentation, the leader highlighted the work carried out by the portfolio and the creation of the National Directorate of Rural Security and police stations and sub-stations throughout the country.
Martinelli was accompanied in the dissemination of the figures, this Wednesday the 15th, at the headquarters of the Ministry of the Interior, by the undersecretary of the portfolio, Pablo Abdala, and the director and deputy director of the National Police, José Azambuya and Jhonny Diego, respectively.
Homicides have stopped their growth and a plateau is confirmed, Martinelli indicated. Meanwhile, in his opinion, the decrease in robberies and thefts responds to a work process. Regarding the lower number of complaints for rustling, he highlighted that having created the National Directorate of Rural Security and inaugurated police stations and detachments in the interior of the country was a determining factor.
The data recorded by the Observatory on Violence and Crime of the Ministry of the Interior compares the year 2024 with 2023 and shows a 22% reduction in complaints in the number of robberies; 19.5% in rustling; 5.7% in thefts, and 1% in homicides.
