MIAMI, United States. — Reporters Adrián Quesada, Leyanis Heredia, Geovanis Cepúlveda and Yadisley Rodríguez Ramírez, filmmakers from the audiovisual agency Palenque Visionwere prosecuted this Thursday for the alleged crimes of contempt and attack.
According to the defendants, the trial against him, held in Camagüey, was manipulated by State Security, which for several years has tried to censor the work of Palenque Vision.
“Everything there was already said, regardless of the witnesses and regardless of anything. State Security put its hand in”, he declared to CubaNet the reporter Yadisley Rodríguez Ramírez.
In the case of the men, they faced a prosecutor request of four and three months of deprivation of liberty without internment, while the women faced a sentence of three years and three months with the same sanction.
Geovanis Cepulveda Martínez, also an activist from the Eastern Democratic Alliance (ADO), told this newspaper that most of the witnesses who attended the hearing were not sincere in their statements, and that whoever was supposed to defend them did not do their job correctly.
“They brought four witnesses. Two of them were dressed as police officers and one was dressed as a civilian. In any case, the one who was dressed in civilian clothes did admit that neither of the accused attacked the police, but rather that we were resisting.”
“Today, once again, we realize that this dictatorship is bothered that we independent journalists make the whole world see what is happening to the Cuban people. With today’s trial we realize that everything was rigged by the dictatorship, but not even prisoners will shut us up,” said Cepulveda Martínez in her profile on Facebook.
Despite the pressure from the regime and the threats of imprisonment against them, the reporters assured that they will not abandon their work in Palenque Vision.
