Investigations by the Comprehensive Security Commission show that the judicial system failed the country and the abandonment of prisons in Ecuador is confirmed.
For November 8, 2021, the Sovereignty, Integration and Integral Security Commission is expected to approve the report of the investigation on the prison crisis and citizen insecurity.
The document had to be approved by the Assembly this Saturday 30th of October, but the legislative body decided to request the president, Guadalupe Llori, a term extension for delivery.
“The draft report is available, but it is necessary to review it carefully to adequately structure the recommendations and conclusions ”, highlighted the President of the Commission, Ramiro Narváez.
He pointed out that the investigation allowed having the inputs to act within the deadlines established by the Plenary, which has meant an arduous task to carry out the work entrusted.
Narváez stated that this research used large number of sources so that the document is reliable, technical and devoid of subjectivities.
In addition, the criteria of various institutions of the Executive, as well as entities linked to the social rehabilitation system, judicial system, decentralized autonomous governments, representatives of the academy, human rights, surveillance agents, police, military, among others.
“The Commission visited prisons from Quito, Latacunga, Guayaquil, Riobamba and Cuenca, which made it possible to show the abandonment in these spaces ”, affirmed the legislator.
Narváez indicated that, as part of the investigation, the Commission conducted 900 information requests to public institutions, demonstrating the lack of public policy on security and social rehabilitation.
“The justice system has failed the country,” he declared. (RR)
