The Residential Rent Variation Index (Ivar) recorded inflation of 4.2% in January this year. In December 2022, the indicator calculated by the Getulio Vargas Foundation had had a deflation (fall in prices) of 1.19%.
As a result, the accumulated Ivar in 12 months increased from 8.25% in December to 10.74% in January. The index is calculated based on the variation in rents charged in the cities of São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Belo Horizonte and Porto Alegre.
If in December, the four capitals had had deflation, in January they registered inflation. In São Paulo, the rate changed from -1.06% in December to 2.84% in January, in Rio de Janeiro it rose from -2.41% to 1.45%, in Belo Horizonte it was -0.46% to 0.72%, while in Porto Alegre it grew from -1.09% to 10.15%.
Accumulated rates in 12 months rose in three capitals: São Paulo (from 7.80% to 8.20%), Rio de Janeiro (from 8.34% to 8.51%) and Porto Alegre (from 7.15% to 16.79%).
Only Belo Horizonte had a drop in the rate: from 11.31% to 9.82%.
