Renté and Santa Cruz enter, but at night the impact will exceed 1,500 mewatts

Despite the incorporation this Monday of two units of the Renté and Santa Cruz thermoelectric plants, this Monday night there is still over 1,400 MW of impact in the range of highest consumption in the country.

With this forecast, according to the recent report from the Electrical Unionblackouts of around 1,529 MW are predicted at this time, on a day with nearly 900 MW of thermal generation out due to lack of fuels and lubricants.

According to the UNE, this morning there was already a deficit of 635 MW (demand of 2,126 MW and availability of 1,506 MW).

For peak hours, the entry of unit 3 of the CTE Santa Cruz with 40 MW and unit 6 of the CTE Renté with 45 MW is expected.

The main factor continues to be the fuel shortage, when 87 distributed generation plants (678 MW), the Fuel del Mariel engine plant (96 MW) and another 108 MW are unavailable due to lack of lubricant, which adds up to 882 MW being out for this reason.

Added to this are breakdowns in five thermal units, maintenance in another two and additional limitations of 392 MW.

More than half a million without power after Melissa

The Cuban Government recognized today that more than half a million people in the country are still without power due to Melissa, the hurricane that hit the eastern end of the island 19 days ago.

The Ministry of Energy and Mines updated on social networks the percentages of customers who have already recovered electricity connection in the five provinces affected by this powerful hurricane.

Thus, the recovery would have reached 100% of the clients in Las Tunas, but only 58% of those in Santiago de Cuba, the most affected region. In the middle would be the provinces of Holguín (91%), Granma (95%) and Guantánamo (99%).

According to comparisons of EFEwhich calculates these rates with the population statistics of the National Information and Statistics Office (ONEI), there are still about 526 thousand people affected by the breaks in distribution lines caused by the meteorological phenomenon.

The repair of the lines, however, does not mean that power will automatically return to customers, since Cuba suffers a serious energy crisis and the SEN is unable to regularly produce the electricity that homes and the economy demand, the agency points out.
