Rental Inflation slows down to 0.27% in January

The General Price Index – Market (IGP -M), known as rent inflation, advanced 0.27% in January, but slowed compared to December, when it registered a 0.94% increase. With this result, the index accumulates high of 6.75% in the last 12 months. In January 2024, the IGP-M rose 0.07%, but still registered accumulated drop of 3.32% in 12 months. “In January 2025, inflation to the producer slowed due to the drop in soybean, cattle and pork prices. In retail, inflation remained contained, as the discharge of food was compensated for the reduction in the price of energy. In construction, however, salary adjustments have sustained the acceleration of interannual inflation of the sector, ”explains André Braz, Ibre/FGV economist.

In January, the Large Producer Price Index rate (IPA) slowed to 0.24%, recording significant retreat over the 1.21% advance observed in December. The final goods group retreated to 0.79% in January after a 0.83% increase in December. Following this behavior, the index corresponding to final goods, which excludes fresh food subgroups and fuels for consumption, went from 1.20% in December to 0.71% in January.

The intermediate goods group rate rose 1.26% in January, higher than the previous month, when it registered a rate of 0.47%. The index of intermediate goods (excluding the subgroup of fuels and lubricants for production) rose 1.20% in January, up higher than in December of 0.46%. The group of raw materials fell 0.75% in January, registering a reversal at its rate after rising 2.35% in December.

According to FGV, in January, the Consumer Price Index (IPC) registered a rate of 0.14%, with slight acceleration compared to the previous month, when the index rose 0.12%. Among the eight expense classes that make up the index, five presented advances in their variation rates: health and personal care (0.20% to 0.57%), food (1.09% to 1.31%), clothing (-0.11% to 0.63%), transport (0.30% to 0.44%) and education, reading and recreation (-0.02% to 0.15%). On the other hand, housing groups (-1.08% to -1.65%), diverse expenses (0.85% to 0.29%) and communication (0.06% to -0.03%) exhibited retreat in their variation rates.

In January, the National Construction Cost Index (INCC) registered up 0.71%, a rate higher than in December, of 0.51%. The Materials and Equipment group retreated from 0.57% to 0.43%; The Services group ranged from -0.25% to 0.41%; and the labor group advanced from 0.53% to 1.13%.
