Although the rise in food prices is the one that most impacts Colombian households and is perhaps the most visible, other services that we consume on a daily basis have also been affected by inflation, that although in May it moderated its upward behavior, it still remains at historical levels.
(Inflation is expected to moderate gradually from May).
Accommodation and electricity services were two of the sectors that most marked the Consumer Price Index in the fifth month of the year, along with food.
According to the director of Dane, Juan Daniel Oviedo, “the rents contributed 12 basic points to the annual inflation, the meat nine and the electricity nine”.
In that order, these three sectors marked out almost 30 points of the 84 that increased the cost of living in the fifth month of the year. Why?
According to experts, this has to do, in the case of leases, with the annual adjustments of the canon, since during the year they have had an increase of 5.6%, which corresponds to the percentage set at the beginning of 2022.
(Inflation without food, at 6.5% for rentals and restaurants).
In other words, as the year progresses, the adjustment is moving to all homes.
In the case of energy, this concept registers one of the largest increases and is due to the fact that each company is adjusting its rates, since the IPP (Producer Price Index) has also had a strong upward variation, and these have been transferred to consumers.
In addition, energy consumption in the country grew 4.71% in April, a figure that would have increased in May and would have triggered consumption and prices in the same way.
