SAN LUIS POTOSÍ, Mexico.- Dr. Orlando Rigol Ricardo, recognized for his work in the field of Gynecology and Obstetrics in Cuba and Latin America, passed away this Thursday, July 25, at the age of 90.
According to what transpired in a note of the Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP), Rigol was a professor at the Gynecological-Obstetric Hospital “Eusebio Hernández”, belonged to the direction of Higher Medical Teaching; was the founder of the study programs of the subject and the specialty, directed the Cuban Journal of Gynecology and Obstetrics for twelve years and was a member of the national specialty group.
The cause of death has not yet been revealed. Rigol was born on February 28, 1934 in Holguín.
She studied medicine at the Calixto García General University Hospital. In 1963 she graduated as a specialist in Gynecology and Obstetrics and worked in the maternity ward of the Calixto García Hospital.
Was selected as a professor of the specialty at the Northern Maternity Hospital in the city of Santiago de Cuba. He also served as a specialist in hospitals in Camagüey.
He was also a Professor and main author of the textbook editions for the undergraduate and graduate courses in the specialty of Gynecology and Obstetrics.
“His physical departure leaves a huge void in the field of teaching, assistance and scientific research. On behalf of the Board of Directors of the Ministry of Public Health, the Cuban Society of Gynecology and Obstetrics, the National Group, as well as his colleagues, workers and students, I extend my deepest condolences to his family and friends,” wrote the MINSAP note.
His influence also extended to Natural and Traditional Medicine in Cuba, of which he was one of the main promoters, applying it in his field of specialty.
