Renovación Popular does not question statements by Milagros Jáuregui: it only apologizes because they showed the faces of the victims

Renovación Popular did not question the statements of Congresswoman Milagros Jáuregui, who indicated that the only victim of a sexual violation is the baby. Instead, through a statement, they limited themselves to regretting and apologizing for the exposure of girls who were victims of sexual violence during an event in which the parliamentarian was present.

“We do not share or endorse what happened at an event organized by a congregation, where girls from a shelter were improperly exposed. This fact does not represent the values or line of our party,” the letter reads.

They added that this “situation that was not promoted or authorized” by the party.

“The protection of children implies respect, care and responsibility. Under no circumstances can the suffering of minors be used for political, symbolic or public display purposes,” they indicated.

RLA’s position regarding cases of sexual abuse against girls

The absence of a position regarding the parliamentarian’s statements coincides with what Rafael López Aliaga expressed in 2021. That year, the leader of Renovación Popular declared that a raped girl should continue the pregnancy and proposed as an alternative to house her for nine months in a “five-star hotel”, with food and care, and then decide whether to keep the baby or give it up for adoption.

“At 9 months they must decide whether to keep their baby or give it up for adoption. In Peru there are 200,000 families looking to adopt,” he said then, referring to abortion in cases of sexual rape.

Flor Pablo considers that Milagros Jáuregui is “romanticizing” sexual abuse against girls

Congresswoman Flor Pablo spoke this Monday with Juliana Oxenford on the Arde Troya program and referred to the questioned case of parliamentarian Milagros Aguayo and the shelter she runs for girls who are victims of rape. In this regard, he warned that these types of initiatives end up “normalizing” acts of extreme violence.

“In reality, there is a perverse and totally cruel use here on the part of this sector, because it represents a sector. How can you want to show a story and romanticize the pregnancy of girls and adolescents, as if it were okay?”, he questioned.

The former Minister of Education recalled that Peru has already been observed internationally for the way in which it faces this problem and stressed that, in these cases, the pregnancy termination protocol should be activated.

“This is a totally cruel act. Exposing girls who have already been violated, forcing them to develop a pregnancy and have a child as if it were a trophy of life,” he said. Finally, he called for us to react and “stop normalizing violence.”
