Reniec denies alleged leak of information of 32 million Peruvians

The National Registry of Identification and Civil Status described the alleged hacking of its database as “false.” Likewise, they deny that sensitive information has been compromised.

Through a statement, they indicated that the rumor shared on social networks is “totally false”, where they assured that the leaked information included data of 32 million citizens, such as names, dates of birth, addresses, among others.

In relation to the information circulating on social networks about an alleged leak of the Reniec database, the registry entity reports the following: The information is false, the database has not been violated, the image circulating on social networks has items that are not included in the registry of our entity”the statement reads.

It is worth mentioning that fears of hacking have increased among users after yesterday, October 30, Interbank suffered a cyber attack and forced the Public Ministry, through the Cybercrime Prosecutor’s Office of Lima Centro (4th Office), to initiate preliminary proceedings against those responsible for the alleged computer crime against data and computer systems, modality of illicit access, to the detriment of said banking entity.
