RENIEC announces changes after complaint of data filtration of more than 15 million Peruvians

According to the information published by this newspaper, thousands of files housed on the Reniec platform that should be protected, were extracted daily from the account of Blanca Saavedra Lozada, a programmer from the General Office of Information Technology and Communications of the Ministry of Interior.

The leaked data are names, homes, photos and signatures of more than 15 million citizens who have already been exposed in the mafias.

The most serious thing is that neither the Reniec nor the Ministry of Interior noticed the irregular flow of consultations.

The electoral entity, on the other hand, said that in the use of the ID Peru platform, the public servant will be automatically identified that enters the RENIEC information, and before any irregular use will be blocked immediately.

He also reported that the proposal was already presented at a high -level meeting of representatives of the RENIEC, the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, the Ministries of Justice and the Interior, the National Personal Data Protection Authority and the Secretariat of Government and Digital Transformation.

ID Peru was released in 2024 and is an application developed by the RENIEC that allows to validate the identity of a person remotely and safely using electronic ID and facial biometry. So far there are 1,600 entities between public and private that already use it.
