The Real Madrid Foundation and the Colegio Español Cervantes de Uruguay renewed for two years the link that unites them since 2008, through which the students of that educational institution practice soccer and basketball at the Don José Emilio Santamaría Socio-sports School. The signing of the new agreement took place this Tuesday in the auditorium of the sports city of the Spanish team, in a ceremony that was attended by several guests.
One of them was the director of the school located in Montevideo, Carlos Cambón, who highlighted to Efe the importance of the event. “For Colegio Cervantes it is a great honor that the Real Madrid Foundation and the club continue to choose us as their representatives in Uruguay”, assured. Also present were, among others, Álvaro Arbeloa, ambassador of Real Madrid, and the Uruguayan José Emilio Santamaría, who won the European Cup four times with the merengue team, in addition to six local leagues and one cup.
The link between the Real Madrid Foundation and the Colegio Español Cervantes began in 2008, although the first contact between the two parties took place three years earlier. At that time, Cambón was received by the current executive vice president of the Foundation, Enrique Sánchez González, and by the managing director, Julio González Ronco, who guided him in the steps he had to take in order to seal the bond.
This is how the agreement was finalized that allowed hundreds of children to practice soccer and basketball for free accompanied by Uruguayan teachers, who are trained by teachers from the club and the Foundation. In addition, several of them participated in the ten trips that have been carried out so far, in which the students were able to visit the team’s facilities, meet some of the players, watch Real Madrid matches and train, among other things.
