Renewable energies and oil meet this Wednesday in Barranquilla

Renewable energies: 10 solar plants are ready in Meta

The city of Barranquilla will be the center of attention in energy of the country. LReasonably, from today until next Friday, the capital of the Atlantic will hold two events, one on renewable energy and the other on hydrocarbons, whose agendas will address the issue of sustainability in its operations.

The first of the two scheduled events is the 5th LATAM Renewables and Distributed Resources Meeting and Fair, organized by the World Energy Council (WEC), FISE and SER Colombia (Association of Renewable Energies Colombia).

The main objective of the event will be ipromote activities in the renewable energy sector and discuss new perspectives of the evolution of the sector so that companies have the opportunity to show technological advances, make investments and develop projects that contribute to the energy transformation of the country.

The meeting will feature an agenda of academic debates and a trade fair, which will bring together companies from the renewable energy sector and distributed energy resources from all over Latin America. In addition, topics such as new trends, climate change mitigation, energy transition, expectations and regulatory realities of Non-Conventional Renewable Energy Sources (Fncer), among others, will be addressed.”, said Germán Corredor, executive director of SER Colombia.

Among the list of more than 80 speakers and companies who will attend the event, stand out Maurizio Bezzeccheri, director for Latin America of ENEL; Xavier Genis, chief operating officer and partner at Boston Consulting Group; María Alexandra Planas Marti, senior energy specialist at the IDB; and Larry Sacks, director of USAID’s Colombia Mission, among others.

Likewise, Fatih Birol, the director of the International Energy Agency (IEA), will make a virtual intervention in which he will talk about global trends and implications of renewable energies and their importance in mitigating climate change.

In it Green Power will be the official sponsor and Canada the guest country. The event will also have the point of view of all the candidates for the Presidency of Colombia 2022.
The applicants will present their respective public policy plans regarding the energy transition and renewable energies.

Sustainable operation

The other event on the energy agenda in Barranquilla has to do with the hydrocarbon industry organized by the Colombian Oil and Gas Association (ACP) with the Sustainability Facts forum, a space in which the country’s contributions on the matter at the environmental, economic and social level will be presented, within the framework of compliance with the Development Objectives Sustainable (SDG).

This will be a space where it will be shown with Sustainability Facts how the sector evolves with technological innovation to be part of the future, in a context of carbon neutrality and sustainable energy diversification, guaranteeing, in turn, energy security for Colombia.”, said Francisco José Lloreda, executive president of the ACP.

The event also seeks to promote a conversation about how the oil and gas industry is innovating and evolving in decarbonization and cleaner energy scenarios, thus being an ally for the transition and the fight against climate change.

“With this Great Forum we want to champion the conversation on sustainability, which is of interest to all Colombians, even more so in the current situation of the global energy crisis and the elections of a new Government in Colombia,” Lloreda stressed.

The union leader added that “this space is an opportunity to demonstrate the importance of oil and gas in the present and future, and show how, through innovation and technology, they are transformed to generate the energy that the country requires to drive its sustainable development”.

(Besides: BlueFloat Energy: ‘we will build seven offshore wind farms’).

In the two days of the forum, around 400 attendees will meet to learn, from expert speakers, about the role played by the oil and gas industry in managing climate change, the circular economy, the opportunities of the sector in the context of energy transition, operations within the framework of human rights, the role of downstream in sustainability, among other topics.

Among the exhibitors will be Carlos Eduardo Correa, Minister of the Environment; Diego Mesa Puyo, Minister of Mines and Energy; Jefferson Mena Sánchez, Presidential Advisor for Human Rights and International Affairs; Fabio Arjona, Director of Conservation International; governors of producing regions, presidents of the main hydrocarbon production and distribution companies in Colombia, among other actors.

As a sector, we have a very important task, and that is to talk about the good practices of the industry to improve them, take them from the technical and academic scenarios, to the daily lives of all Colombians. The invitation is for all of us to be part of this conversation, based on facts”, Francisco José Lloreda concluded.

Both events in their own way, but on separate agendas, will address the issue of sustainability, one from the energy transition in the generation of clean electricity, and the other from an operation whose processes can become sustainable without affecting ecosystems, as well as communities.
