Defender Renan, from Red Bull Bragantino, was arrested in the act this Friday (22) for manslaughter. The 20-year-old player was involved in a car accident, in which one person died, on Alkindar Monteiro Junqueira Highway, in the Quinta da Baronesa neighborhood, in Bragança Paulista (SP).
According to a note from the São Paulo Public Security Department (SSP), the accident occurred at 6:40 am this Friday. Renan’s vehicle hit a 38-year-old motorcyclist, who succumbed to his injuries and died at the scene. The case is investigated by the 1st Police District of Bragança Paulista. The player was taken to the public jail in Piracaia (SP), a neighboring city.
Images of the accident show that the car was on the wrong side of the road. The SSP press release does not confirm whether Renan was intoxicated behind the wheel.
Bragantino manifested itself through a note. Massa Bruta reported that it is following the case “closely” and has made itself available to authorities and the victim’s relatives, “with whom it sympathizes in this moment of great sadness”.
Renan is on loan to the club in the interior of São Paulo until the end of the year. The 20-year-old player is linked to Palmeiras, with whom he has a contract until 2025. Verdão, also in a statement, expressed solidarity with the motorcyclist’s family, to whom he said he will provide “all necessary assistance”.
Asked about the player’s contractual situation, Bragantino and Palmeiras’ press offices reported that there is still no official position.
