The communal chief handed over the keys to three of the 16 that will be handed over as their old houses in the settlement are demolished these days. Antia said that it is an old dream that allows the creation of a quality neighborhood to leave the settlement behind. He highlighted the importance of convincing the neighbors that it is a better place to live and develop.
He also told those present about the process that today leads to more than 98 percent of the residents endorsing the relocation. He pointed out that in two and a half years the relocation will be completed. He recalled that where houses are built today was a space bought by foreigners that the mayor expropriated in order to realize the dream of a neighborhood with all the services for families. In this sense, he highlighted the polyclinic, public spaces, bike paths, among others.
The relocation is possible thanks to the investment of 55 million dollars payable in 15 years with the endorsement of the national government. Regarding the continuity of the rehousing, the mayor indicated that the companies for the gradual construction of 120, 240 and 38 more homes that will begin in the coming days have already been tendered. Antía predicted that by December 2023 the object is to rehouse 300 more families.
Solution to avoid new settlements: The mayor also said that the solution for settlements goes hand in hand with avoiding new ones, which is why a land purchase plan has been in force since his previous term, dividing them up and putting them up for sale for Maldonado families at affordable prices, raffle through. Between 2015 and 2020, 430 plots of land were raffled off and in the current one, 45 more hectares were purchased to be divided up and put up for sale, thus closing the circle. The act was attended by national and departmental authorities.
