Adepts of Candomblé and other religions of African origins, in addition to those from Bahia and other carnival groups, performed today (11) the traditional washing ritual of the Sambadrome in Rio de Janeiro. Traditional figures of the Carioca Carnival also participated in the event. Performed with holy water and branches, between chants and dances, Carnival supporters believe that the ritual brings “good luck and positive energy” to competitors.

“We are here today washing the Marquês de Sapucaí, bringing hope to our revelers, joy and fraternization, which is the true meaning of Carnival. This moment of the Royal Parade of Carnival 2022 is of paramount importance. Axé, prosperity and health to our revelers”, said Wilson Dias Neto, Rei Momo.
Canceled in 2021 because of the pandemic, the 2022 Carnival was postponed due to the increase in cases of covid-19 due to the emergence of the Ômicron variant. This year’s parades start on April 20.
