In the afternoon this October 16, a group of fRelatives of teenagers who were detained in the protests against the result of the National Electoral Council, in which Nicolás Maduro was named the winner of the presidential elections, carried out a vigil outside the prison Tocuyito to demand their freedom.
“Neither terrorists nor criminals, our boys are innocent,” said the relatives of the minors, according to the media. VPITV.
The demonstrations, which began on July 29, without political leadership and were quickly repressed, left thousands of people detained, including dozens of teenagers.
Some were detained at their homes, in police operations or at protests. He Criminal Forum Venezolano, which is dedicated to the defense of those detained for political reasons, counted 142 detained adolescents, between 13 and 17 years of age.

At the end of August there were some releases in several states of the country, but there are still 70 detainees in centers for adolescents in conflict with the law, prisons or police commands.

This organization recalled that any statement obtained under duress lacks legal validity, as established in article 49, paragraph 5 of the Venezuelan Constitution, which prohibits any person from being forced to confess guilt or testify against themselves.
In addition to coercion, the NGO denounces that the Public Defender’s Office has been imposed as legal representation of these young people, depriving them of the possibility of choosing a trusted lawyer.
