Relatives of Rodríguez Torres denounce serious harassment when visiting the military

The sister of former Interior Minister Miguel Rodríguez Torres, today a political prisoner of the Nicolás Maduro regime, assured that his family, including minors, are exposed to body searches in order to access the visit within the Dgcim facilities.

Relatives of former Minister of the Interior M/G Miguel Rodríguez Torres denounced the denigrating inspections to which they are subjected in order to gain access to visits within the facilities of the General Directorate of Military Counterintelligence (Dgcim), located in Fort Tiuna in Caracas.

The information was released Danielly Rodriguez Torressister of the soldier, who went to the Ombudsman’s Office and the Public Prosecutor’s Office to denounce the deterioration of the prison conditions of political prisoners.

He assured that his brother has been imprisoned in an “unfair” manner for more than four years, without receiving a trial and currently suffers from serious health complications.

He pointed out that while the inspection of the prisons where the Government has held more than 100 political prisoners was planned, both by the members of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, as well as by the representatives of the Court International Criminal Court, the facilities of these spaces and the procedures that are carried out internally were “made up”.

However, in what he classified as a “new stage”, these spaces returned to practices that violate the rights of inmates and their families.

“It seems that the restrictions, harassment and other effects on human rights are coming back with more force,” he explained.

Danelly Rodríguez said that both she and her relatives have been exposed to what she considered a “denigrating body search for access to the facilities” of the Dgcim, pointing out that these practices are applied to children and adolescents without distinction.

These measures are mandatory to be able to access to see their relatives, who remain within these spaces. He alleged that, in addition, the days of visits were reduced.

In November 2021, Miguel Rodríguez Torres suffered a serious hypertensive crisis that took to the hospitall, at that time his brother warned that in addition to heart problems, the former minister suffers from problems in one of his shoulders and hip, chronic reddening of the skin and prostate growth. For this reason, they had asked the State agencies to attend to all of his pathologies and to respect the corresponding medical treatment.

For three years, the lawyers and relatives of Miguel Rodríguez Torres have requested medical examinations and pending surgical interventions, but they have been denied.

In 2019, the former minister underwent surgery for his shoulder and hip problems, but he was not allowed rehabilitation physical therapy, so the ailments returned. He is one of the more than 100 political prisoners who require medical attention for his ailments.

On March 13, 2018, after offering a press conference in which he strongly criticized the administration of Nicolás Maduro, Miguel Rodríguez Torres was arrested by members of the Bolivarian Intelligence Service (Sebin), for allegedly “being involved in in actions against peace and public tranquility and in the conspiracy aimed at attacking the monolithic unity of the Armed Forces.”
