Persecution and harassment patterns against relatives of political prisoners and releases have led many to abandon their homes for fear of reprisals and the constant surveillance they face
Yelitza Vergara, mother of Miguel Eduardo González Vergara, recently released political prison (Cicpc), armed at their home, in Acarigua, Portuguese state, looking for two people who allegedly resided there.
Vergara said he explained to the officials that it was not the address they were looking for, but they insisted that the information they handled indicated otherwise. After several minutes of apparent confusion, the troops withdrew.
The mother of the excess held the State responsible for any fact that puts their safety and that of her family at risk, since, she denounced, in the last six months they have been victims of serious violations of their human rights. He considered this fact as an attack of “psychoterror.”
Yelitza Vergara assured that her son was arrested on August 7 in the context of post -electoral protests, “being innocent” and said that she has been the victim of “threats and abuse.”

Vergara’s complaint adds to a series of reports on harassment and persecution of relatives of released political prisoners. According to testimonies collected by the Committee for the Freedom of Political Prisoners (Clippve), Both relatives and releases themselves have been victims of harassment by officials and people involved in their arrests after the July 28 elections.

Family members condemn these situations, since they remember that the releases remain under judicial orders and restrictions, such as presentations in court and prohibition to speak publicly of their cases.
This persecution pattern has led many families to leave their homes for fear of reprisals and the constant surveillance they face. Human Rights Defender Organizations have warned that these facts show the continuity of a state horror policy that keeps those who have been victims of arbitrary arrests in anxiety.
«We demand to cease these practices of state terrorism that do not contribute to an environment of true peace in the country. On the contrary, they revictimize those who have lived injustice during these long months and deepen their suffering, ”said the Clippve, adding to the demands of justice and respect for the fundamental rights of released political prisoners and their families.
Despite recent release, activists and family insists that the full freedom of detainees remains a pending debt of the Venezuelan State, while fear and harassment persist as mechanisms for social control and repression.
