A group of relatives of 70 political prisoners insisted that in Nicaragua there be a “constructive meeting” with the rulers, the living forces of the nation and the Catholic Church so that “the necessary foundations for common well-being” are forged.
“Meanwhile, we family members, without ever forgetting each and every one of our prisoners, commit ourselves to contributing in good faith to this patriotic goal,” said Lesbia Alfaro, mother of the student leader and political prisoner of the Ortega-Murillo regime, Lesther Alemán Alfaro, on behalf of the group of relatives of political prisoners.
The message also calls for the release of all prisoners of conscience: “When we long for a reunion with loved ones, our best way of expressing that feeling is by telling them: we are waiting for you like May water”, in reference to the rainy season which has already started in the country.

“Last month (May) the rains returned to Nicaragua on time, and we as relatives of political prisoners, encouraged by the positive spirit of new beginnings, today ask the rulers for their release,” they point out.
This is not a foolish request, “they emphasize. “The government has already shown signs of good will,” he adds, referring to the 11 political prisoners sent under house arrest.
“We always harbor the hope of their definitive release, and above all we yearn for the release of the brothers and sisters who remain behind bars, thus achieving a full reunion within the family,” they indicate.
He points out that, as Nicaraguans, they want to promote a favorable social and political environment “that brings benefits to our farmers, from the smallest producer to the strongest; and in this way also to be able to supply our population in an affordable way».
According to the Mechanism for the Recognition of Political Prisoners, in Nicaragua there are more than 180 prisoners of conscience by the dictatorship of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo. All have been victims of torture, according to reports from their families.
