Relatives of Olesia Muñoz are concerned about her health

The months in prison that Olesia Muñoz suffered, during her first arrest by the Ortega-Murillo regime, wreaked havoc on her health. The lack of timely attention, anxiety and stress that she suffered from captivity led her to develop diabetes.

On Holy Thursday, at noon, Muñoz was getting his musical equipment ready to go and sing the mass at the beginning of the Easter triduum in the San Pedro parish in the municipality of Diriá, department of Granada, when he heard a knock on the door of his house. As he left, he noticed that there were two police cars full of riot police.

One of the agents asked her to accompany him to give a statement, without specifying the subject, or knowing if she was accused or involved in any specific case. Of course, she sensed that the summons was a political matter, but since she was cut off from all activism due to her illness, she went without resistance.

Since that day, her relatives have relived the ordeal they had experienced since 2018, when she was imprisoned for nearly a year in the cells of “El Chipote” and the La Esperanza prison system, after being convicted of alleged “terrorist” acts that did not affect her. they tried. The political prisoner had demonstrated like thousands of Nicaraguans against the dictatorship in the social protests of 2018.

When Muñoz was released, she joined the service in the Santa Ana parish of her hometown, Niquinohomo, where in the first months after her release she was besieged, but she never chose to go into exile.

unknown whereabouts

In this second kidnapping suffered by Muñoz, her relatives are experiencing the same anguish they were subjected to in 2018, with the difference that now they do not know the reasons for her arrest, her state of health, whether or not she has been accused, or when. will be released.

«Olesia Muñoz did not maintain any political activity, she was dedicated to the service of the church with her singing thanks to the voice that God gave her. She also worked in commerce, as an inheritance from our parents, who taught us to earn our bread in a dignified way and that is why we do not understand why she was imprisoned again, “said a relative.

They demand to know your state of health

After several days of anxiety and anguish, when touring the Masaya police stations and going to the cells of “El Chipote”, the soprano’s relatives found out that she was being held in the cells of District III of the Managua police station. but they are still unable to talk to her, to find out her state of health.

“We are concerned about her health because sometimes she decompensates due to her diabetes and has to have her medicines and medical assistance, we pray to God that this new ordeal ends soon,” said another relative.

Several of the political prisoners who were kidnapped during Holy Week are also being held in these cells, such as the journalist Víctor Ticay, correspondent for Channel 10 in the municipality of Nandaime, as well as the citizens Jimmy Bonilla and Emmanuel Gutierrezafter participating in a religious activity in the Santa Ana parish, in that same municipality in the department of Granada.

“When we demand from the police authorities that we want to see our relatives, they tell us that we must have an authorization from Judicial Assistance, but we know that it is a delaying tactic. We do not know the physical state of the detainees,” complained another relative of one of the prisoners.

Visiting a political prisoner in a police station in Managua incurs a greater economic expense, for a family that lives in the departments, due to the prices of the ticket and the food they have to prepare for their food.

Most of the relatives of the detainees are humble people, with limited economic resources and traveling frequently to the capital city represents “a headache” due to the cost. The worst thing is that when they arrive at the delegation they find the disappointment of not being able to see them.

“Many friends and relatives intend to visit our homes, to show us solidarity and support, but do not do so for fear of reprisals. We hope that this anguish that only causes us anxiety will soon end, because we don’t know when they will be released again,” said a relative of another detainee.
