Relatives of Luis Istúriz demand his freedom: he was sentenced along with Rafael Tudares

Relatives of Luis Istúriz, political secretary of Vente Venezuela in Miranda state, asked the authorities to take him into account in the release process that they have been carrying out since last January 8.

Istúriz was sentenced on December 3 to 20 years in prison in the same trial hearing in which Rafael Tudares Bracho, lawyer and son-in-law of Edmundo González, was sentenced to 30 years in prison. His relatives appealed the court decision in the corresponding periods.

Tudares Bracho was released from prison on January 21. Due to this, the relatives of Luis Istúriz will introduce before the courts an “extensive effect of the release” of Tudares, with which they hope to achieve the release of the political leader.

“They release three, two or none, the process is very lengthy,” said a relative, who preferred to omit his identity.

For his part, lawyer Zair Mundaray, former deputy prosecutor of the Public Ministry, Indian that “if Tudares was released, Isturiz must have the same treatment, since it is the same cause, file, accusation and sentence.”

Istúriz was arrested on Saturday, August 24, 2024 by Sebin officials in Guarenas (Miranda state). He spent weeks in isolation until they could see him at the Sebin Helicoide, where he is being held.

Although Luis Istúriz’s file was classified as “State reserve”, family members were able to learn that he was accused of six alleged crimes such as forging public documents, usurpation and instigating disobedience of the laws.

A relative comments that Istúriz “in general terms” is fine, although he remains “anxious” and “with the hope that it will be closer to returning home to his children, who don’t want to pick up Christmas until their dad gets home.”
