Relatives denounce overcrowding and diseases in cells of the Cicpc in Maturín

The relatives of those detained in the dungeons of the Scientific, Criminal and Criminal Investigation Corps (Cicpc), Maturín delegation, denounced Radio Fe y Alegría News the overcrowded conditions and the proliferation of skin diseases in that prison.

They detailed that around 400 detainees are inside the cancellation facility, who have suffered from tuberculosis, scabies and the so-called “born” (cellulitis) on the skin, due to the unsanitary conditions of the site.

One of the relatives consulted, who did not want to give his name for fear of reprisals, said that the inmates have to take turns to be able to sit down or sleep for a while.

Yaritza Veliz, mother of one of the detainees, said through tears that there is not a single day that she does not go to bring food to her son who is in the cells.

«I am denouncing because my son hurts me. They are human beings and should be treated well. It is not fair that they spend more than noon without eating anything, we want the minister to come and directly address this situation. We want them to be cared for and treated with dignity,” she said.

In this sense, Mrs. Ricxy Girott assured that some of those who know they are sick are not guaranteed medical treatment.

«They only take him to the hospital when they see that the boy is dying. There are many detainees who cannot walk because of how sick they are. They cannot leave these prisoners to the good of God, “Girott said.

In addition, he pointed out that the same thing happens in the courts, because Girott’s relative has been deferred the hearing 11 times. «If it is not because the prosecutor’s nail hurts, or the judge hurts something. Everything they do is inhumane.”

The mothers of those deprived of liberty called on the Minister of Penitentiary Services, Myrelis Contreras, to focus on addressing these “inhumane” conditions. They also asked the security authorities to treat the inmates of the different cells that exist in the Monagas state well.
