Relatives denounce the inhuman conditions and cruel treatment to which political prisoners are subjected in the Yare II prison, located in the state of Miranda.
According to information published this Sunday by the Committee for the freedom of political prisoners (Clippve)the detainees would be starving. The food, in addition to being “very bad,” is insufficient and his family allows him to bring in only a few foods every 15 days.
They also report physical attacks on several detainees: “The prisoners are receiving constant beatings and physical attacks, presenting extensive bruises on different parts of their bodies as a result of these beatings.”

The Clippve calls on the Public Ministry and the Ombudsman’s Office to investigate the complaints and punish those responsible. “These complaints reflect possible cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment, prohibited by the Constitution, international law and contrary to the Mandela Rules,” the organization notes.
At the same time, the Committee calls on the international community, human rights organizations, multilateral mechanisms and democratic governments to activate monitoring mechanisms to avoid “irreparable damage and guarantee the protection of people detained for political reasons” in the country.
According to the most recent balance presented by the organization Foro Penal, in Venezuela there are 875 people deprived of liberty for political reasons. Of these, 83 are of foreign nationality.
