Relatives of babies born healthy, and who died hours later at the Ramón Carrillo Maternal Neonatal Hospital, in the city of Córdoba, between March and June of this year, they mobilized with torches, to insist on “speed in the investigation, justice for the victims and punishment of those responsible.”

So far, they are five cases of deceased babies investigated by the justice system, though daily testimonies continue to be added about similar events or cases in which babies managed to survive after suffering decompensation due to similar critical conditions, and without responses from health professionals.

The mothers, fathers and relatives of the deceased babies carried out a “torch march” in front of the public hospital, located in the Poeta Lugones neighborhood in the northern part of the Cordovan capital, carrying lighted candles to ask for “truth and justice”.

In that place, they heard testimonials of those who said that they themselves or in some cases members of the family environment, suffered acts of “neglect, abuse and obstetric violence” in that provincial care center.

Maria, mother of one of the babies who managed to survive a serious illness, despite being born healthy, spoke to the media and said that she came to accompany the relatives of the dead babies so that “the truth of what happened is investigated and the truth is reached.”

“It is necessary that the truth be known and for that it is important that justice works in the investigation. This cannot go unpunished,” said a relative of a baby who was born last year in that neonatal and maternal hospital and “died the same day.”
