In the book “The inheritance” John Grisham said that “The main thing is the truth, but there are many ways to tell it” and if not, ask the witnesses of a case: some will hardly remember what happened; others, in order not to appear clueless, will add non-existent details; while the few will admit that they did not retain the details and sincerely give up. A woman who has witnessed an event will have been able to notice everything from her clothing to the type of hairstyle of the subjects, while the man will barely notice her, unless a vehicle was involved. Older people will focus on what they consider relevant, younger people only on what is obvious; there is no infallible credibility in testimonial evidence because the subjective element prevails and is as varied as human nature.
The truth is useless, when the most important thing is to prove it. Everything will depend on who the version comes from, what are its claims or conveniences, who is affected, what interests promote it and what is sought to be obtained. Even a leader’s speech will please depending on where you look at it. Each one has the truth about him and that is why there can be many: the one that is convenient, the one that we want to show, the one that does not hurt and the one that we consider presents a better image of ourselves. Each story has its interpretation that will be as valid as true for whoever holds it.
Impartiality is a chimera, relativity prevents the purity of what is true, no position is absolute because everyone has their own convictions, their affections, their deep-rooted beliefs -often from childhood- and even the frustrations of youth or disagreements of old age and nothing and no one can change them because that is their reality. There is no single truth, only truths or points of view that, along with reason, everyone considers themselves creditors. Like the accountant who in a job interview was asked how much two and two were and, while the applicants who preceded him had said that 22 or 4, he asked the recruiter: “How much do you want. whatever?, to which they replied: “He’s hired!”
