In a note, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs recalled that in addition to the bilateral relations established on November 15, 1975, Brazil and Mozambique are also partners within the scope of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP).

“Bilateral relations were built on the basis of shared cultural identity, historical affinities, strong human ties and a common language. Brazil and Mozambique developed, during this period, significant cooperation in areas such as health, agriculture and education”, he says.

According to the Brazilian government there is also “broad convergence” in the actions of the two countries in international forums, as an example of the “expressive support” of Mozambique for the initiatives presented by Brazil in the 30th United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP30)which is taking place in Belém, Pará.

Brazil has also supported Mozambique with security forces and reconstruction at crucial moments, such as after the cyclone that devastated the country six years ago (photo).

On the 7th, Lula and the president of Mozambique, Daniel Chapo, had a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the COP30 Leaders’ Summit. They discussed topics that should be explored in depth during Lula’s visit to Maputo, the country’s capital.

“The presidents committed to deepening cooperation in areas such as agriculture, entrepreneurship, health, education and combating organized crime. They should also redouble efforts to expand trade and investment between the two countries”, says a note from the Presidency of the Republic, released on the occasion.

Mozambique is the largest beneficiary of Brazilian cooperation with resources from the Brazilian Cooperation Agency (ABC) in Africa, covering diverse areas – health, agriculture, education, professional training, among others – and involving structuring projects.
