Veracruz, Ver., President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo called the Armed Forces to be an example for the nation and reject corruption, underlining that “the opposite of honesty is corruption, a betrayal of all values and a disloyalty that cannot be accommodated in our institutions.”
In the ceremony for the 204th anniversary of the birth of the Navy of Mexico and the 201 years of the promulgation of the First Federal Constitution, held in the New Plaza del Heroism Veracruz, in the Malecon of this port, the president asked sailors and soldiers to honor honesty as a principle of life.
“Loyalty to the country also demands loyalty to the values and the truth,” said Sheinbaum before naval and military controls, whom he urged to maintain righteousness even “when no one looks at,” because, he said, “the true courage is to reject corruption and be an example for the family, colleagues and the entire nation.”
He stressed that to defend national sovereignty “values are needed in people and institutions,” and recognized in the Armed Forces, loyalty, duty, patriotism and honesty as principles that define them. “There is no wealth that is worth more than honor, there is no greater power than loyalty, there is no more valuable inheritance than living righteously,” he said.
The president’s message occurs in a context in which Marina’s elements have been arrested for alleged links with a network dedicated to illegal fuel importation through false tariff fractions, in a tax evasion evasion scheme known as Huachicol fiscal. Given this, Sheinbaum reiterated that corruption must be sanctioned “firmly” and that public service must be assumed as a commitment to republican values.
For his part, the Secretary of the Navy, Raymundo Pedro Morales Ángeles, said that sovereignty and freedom are the pillars of the Mexican nation and recalled that the Navy was born “to serve and remain firm in her mission to ensure the homeland.” He also reported that the school ship Cuauhtémoc Save back to Mexico from New York, after being repaired from the impact against the Brooklyn bridge that suffered on May 17, an accident that left two dead sailors.
The act was also headed by General Ricardo Trevilla Trejo, head of the Ministry of National Defense; Governor Rocío Nahle García, and the headlines of Congress, Senator Laura Itzel Castillo and deputy Kenya López Rabadán, as well as the minister president of the Supreme Court, Hugo Aguilar Ortiz.
As part of the commemoration, the president opened the Plaza del Heroism Veracruzano, a work completed last June with an investment of 133 million pesos. The remodeling of 15 thousand square meters is intended to honor the historical memory of the city and recover its historic center.
The ceremony included a tactical exercise with vessels, helicopters and personnel of the marine plan, and concluded with a commemorative parade in which 3 thousand 871 troops participated, of which 1,275 were women.
