The deputy of the Colorado Party Nibia Reisch made a written statement in which she warns that “our country has given recognition to the disappeared detainees”, through the construction of several memorials to disappeared detainees and political prisoners, however “the State has not recognized those who fell in the line of duty”.
“It is necessary to put into debate the need to grant reparation measures for all, being in the debt, symbolic reparation, with the creation of a Memorial of Victims to the Fallen in Defense of Democratic Institutions and freedom”, says the document .
According to the legislator, the memorial must guide the memory and produce effects in the memory of those who observe it.
“In this way, we will reflect on the past and the consequences of such confrontations that must operate through generational changes, both in society and in the Government, giving rise to a collective feeling of wounds and reflection, timeless, so that future generations find their meaning and enrich quality”, he concludes.
For Reisch, Uruguayan society must have actions that seek “a frank reconciliation” where the stories do not confront but can be left in the past.
