Reinfo: President Jerí is “preliminarily” in agreement with the decision of the Plenary Congress

President José Jerí was “preliminary” in agreement with the decision of the Plenary Session of Congress to extend the Comprehensive Registry of Mining Formalization (Renifo) until December 2026 and to reject the reincorporation into the mining formalization process of some 50 thousand informal miners, as his government had proposed.

“It must be made clear that the main points raised by the Government have left us satisfied with the opinion approved yesterday. Preliminarily we are satisfied with the result. Congress has understood that although it is true that there is a real problem with the informal miners who are demanding something that they consider fair, we also have to look after the State in general,” said the president.

The head of state specified that although the ideal would have been not to expand the registry, an intermediate position has been assumed, taking into account “the reality” that his government “has inherited” on this issue.

“It is an intermediate position, it is not ideal; the ideal would have been not to have to expand it, but under the reality that we have inherited it was the best we could achieve as a middle point. We are preliminarily satisfied waiting for it to be validated in the second vote,” he indicated.

The Permanent Commission must decide next week whether to reject or ratify the opinion approved last Thursday night in plenary.

By majority and in the midst of conflicting positions, the Plenary Session of the Congress of the Republic approved last night, in the first vote, to extend the process of the Comprehensive Mining Formalization Registry (Reinfo) until December 31, 2026 or until the entry into force of the Small Mining and Artisanal Mining Law (ASM) and its regulations, in any case, whichever comes first.

The substitute text for the opinion of the Energy and Mines Commission was supported by 60 votes, and included the proposal raised hours before by the Executive so that the Reinfo is not extended until December 2027.

Likewise, the reincorporation into the mining formalization process of some 50 thousand informal miners was ruled out.
