The Government seeks that all Dominican workers enjoy and receive the same rights that the laws propose
The Minister of Labor, Luis Miguel de Campsassured yesterday that the regulations for the domestic workers sector will be included in the Labor Code that is presented, once the discussions on the reform of the law are concluded.
He explained that one of the objectives of this Government is to not leave any Dominican behind, where all workers receive and enjoy the same rights, so with the presentation of the new project to modernize the code, a consensus element is included that will allow domestic workers to be part of, for example, Social Security.
Last year, the Constitutional Court (TC) annulled the resolution that established a regulatory regime for domestic work, which provided for mandatory hiring regulated by the Ministry of Labor (MT), limited hours to eight hours a day and the inclusion of these employees in the Dominican Social Security System.
“It has already been agreed upon and will be included in the Labor Code project, which will be presented in a few weeks.“De Camps responded to questions from journalists.
She noted that more than 240,000 people, mostly women, are engaged in household employment in the Dominican Republic.
It is recalled that when the Government issued resolution 14-2022, a direct action appeal of unconstitutionality was filed.
The Constitutional Court’s decision indicated that it admitted and upheld the appeal and, consequently, “declared the Government’s resolution, issued on August 25, 2022, to be inconsistent with the Constitution; and “ordered the communication of the judgment.
