The residents of the Torres del Cangrejo building, located on Vía Argentina, woke up this Tuesday between the flames, due to a fire whose cause is still unknown, and in which an adult over 90 years old lost her life.
According to Major Ángel Delgado, director of Related Calamities of the Meritorious Fire Department of Panama, the fire occurred after an explosion, but the reason is unknown.
This older adult lived alone, so it was difficult for her to leave at the time of the event. The fire covered the 11th, 12th and 13th floors of the building.
Delgado explained that more than 120 people were evacuated from the place as part of the rescue efforts.
The National Police asked drivers to travel through alternate routes, since the point where the event was recorded remains closed.
