Registration for the MEC Radio Award and National Radio Festival begins

Musicians from all over the country can register, starting this Monday (5), for the National Radio Music Festival and the 21st MEC Radio Awards. The traditional awards organized by the public radio stations of the Brazilian Communication Company (EBC) aim to reveal and recognize Brazilian music talents in unpublished works. The registration period for both awards began at 7:00 p.m. and continues until September 16 (see the schedule below). In its 15th edition, the National Radio Festival will receive entries from all over the country for the first time. Previously, artists had to come from states where the broadcaster is present. The new feature of the MEC Radio Award is that radio programs will be allowed to enter, in line with the editorial line of the MEC Radioto be shown on the schedule in 2025.

“These two events are important annual actions for the public radio stations in EBCeach in its own segment, for dialogue with society, valuing independent production and giving space to regional culture. We are very happy with this maturity that we have managed to achieve, because it brings a very great return for the public vehicles of the EBCin addition to creating a more open and stronger relationship with Brazilian society”, says EBC’s executive manager of Radios, Thiago Regotto.

The two events now form the musical axis of the EBC Public Communication Award, launched in July. The fight against misinformation, the resumption of incentives for national audiovisual production and the traditional recognition of the country’s radio production guide the three axes of the award. “This broad initiative consolidates our objective of strengthening and valuing the fields of communication and Brazilian culture”, says the CEO of the EBCJean Lima.

How to apply

Registration, as well as the rules for each of the awards, are available at prize.ebc.com.br. Applicants go through an initial selection process, when the songs that will be played on the stations’ programming are classified, so that the public can get to know and vote for the finalists. The grand final of the National Festival will be held in Brasília, in a show scheduled for November 30th. The Big Night of the Rádio MEC Awards will be held at Sala Cecília Meireles, in Rio de Janeiro, on December 4th.

In the Rádio MEC Awards, each composer or performer may submit up to two songs per category: classical, instrumental and for children. Proponents of radio programs that will be broadcast on the station’s schedule may compete with one proposal in each category – classical, instrumental and for children. The National Festival will receive up to two songs per entry, which can compete in five categories: Best Song with Lyrics, Best Performer, Best Lyrics, Best Arrangement and Most Voted Song on the Internet. Details of the rules can be found here here.

About the MEC Radio Award

Always reinventing itself since the 1960s, MEC Radio promotes awards for new talents in the classical, instrumental and children’s music scene, as well as radio production. A jury selects the entrants who will be chosen in the next phase through popular voting. The competition includes a great night of celebration of Brazilian music when the participants receive the award.

About the National Radio Festival

The Festival was created in 2009 with the aim of revealing to Brazil singers and composers of Brazilian popular music (MPB). The artists selected by the public and the jury start to play in the festival’s program. National Radioand the 12 finalists defend their songs live at the Final Show.
