The Ministry of Education (MEC) extended registrations for the remaining vacancies in the Student Financing Fund (Fies) for the second semester of 2024 until this Monday (2).
Students enrolled in higher education courses must register exclusively online, at Single Access Portal to Higher Educationin the Fies module until 11:59 pm today, official Brasília time.
When accessing the Fies Seleção system, higher education students must enter the federal government’s single digital services portal, Gov.br, with their Individual Taxpayer Registry (CPF) and password.
Fies finances the monthly fees of undergraduate students at private higher education institutions with a positive evaluation in the National Higher Education Assessment System (Sinaes).
The result of the student pre-selection will be announced on Wednesday (4) in a single call, in the order of classification. The names on the waiting list will also be announced.
Who is entitled
According to the extra notice, the remaining places are intended exclusively for students actually enrolled in a higher education course and, if the academic semester has already ended, candidates must have completed that period with success in at least 75% of the subjects.
To participate in the selection, the candidate must also have participated in the National High School Exam (Enem), from the 2010 edition onwards, and obtained an arithmetic average of grades in the tests equal to or greater than 450 points, as well as a grade greater than zero in the essay.
It is also necessary to have a gross monthly family income, per person, of up to three minimum wages (R$4,236, in 2024).
Affirmative Actions
Students of higher education courses who self-declare as black, mixed-race, indigenous, quilombola, people with disabilities and members of families registered in the Single Registry for Social Programs of the Federal Government (CadÚnico) have another chance of obtaining financing
Through Fies Social, created this year to meet the needs of low-income students, the federal program modality will give priority to the selection of students with a family income of up to half a minimum wage (R$706) per person in the family, registered in CadÚnico.
In 2024, for the first time, self-declared black, brown, indigenous, quilombola and people with disabilities (PCD) candidates will have priority in classification for the remaining vacancies. The result of the pre-selection of candidates and the ranking order will be announced on December 4th, for a single call and a waiting list.
Program
Since 2001, Fies has democratized access to higher education, allowing low-income students to graduate. The program offers financing at interest rates much lower than those on the financial market, which makes it more accessible to this audience.
Fies offers different types of financing, with varying payment terms and conditions, depending on each candidate’s family income. Those who need it most can have zero-interest financing.
In Fies modality I, for example, the financing will be paid after the end of the course, respecting the student’s income limit. The financing can be paid by debiting the student’s current or savings account.
