The Brazilian Book Chamber opened registrations for the 3rd edition of the Jabuti Academic Award, this Thursday (29), with a deadline of March 19. 
Works in Portuguese, published in the first edition between January 1st and December 31st, 2025, can compete for the award.
For selection, individual works, collections, dictionaries or encyclopedias, didactic works and scientific dissemination works will be considered. Works must have an ISBN and Catalog Sheet issued in Brazil, meeting legal requirements.
“The Jabuti Academic Award makes relevant contributions to the scientific, social, political and cultural aspects of Brazil, by promoting authors and editors who are dedicated to academic production. Recognizing them means encouraging research and science as pillars for the development of our country”, said Sevani Matos, president of CBL.
Brazilian authors, born or naturalized, or foreigners with permanent residence in Brazil can compete for the award. A new feature in this year’s edition is that foreign authors not resident in the country will be admitted exclusively to collections.
The winning authors will receive the statuette in a special ceremony, in addition to a prize of R$5,000. The publishers of the award-winning works will receive a Jabuti statuette.
Information about the semi-finalists and finalists, as well as the date and location of the award ceremony will be announced throughout the year.
According to the organization, books that have used artificial intelligence tools, including similar technologies and applications that incorporate them, in authorial tasks will not be accepted.
“If misuse or appropriate use is identified without express declaration, the book in question will be disqualified, regardless of the stage it is in.”
Tributes
The Academic Jabuti pays tributes, recognizing the Academic Personality – a choice that will be made by the CBL -, and the Classic Academic Book.
To choose the book, a public consultation is open to indicate the works until February 27th. Interested parties can nominate books for this honor by filling out a form on website of the award.
The winner will be chosen by the entity after pre-selection of the best nominees by the award curators and committee.
According to the CBL, the Classical Academic Book recognizes reference works that remain relevant and impactful over time. In this edition, the work must be 15 years old or older.
Categories
The Academic Jabuti has 30 categories, divided into two axes: Science and Culture, with 27; and Special Awards, with three, being Translation, Scientific Dissemination, in addition to Illustration and Infographics – the latter nomenclature included in the 2026 regulation.
Each work can only be entered into a single award category, with the exception of the Illustration and Infographics category, which accepts the registration of titles that are also participating in any other of the two axes.
The Science and Culture axis includes: Food Science and Nutrition; Agricultural and Environmental Sciences; Veterinary Medicine, Animal Husbandry and Fisheries Resources; Biological Sciences, Biodiversity and Biotechnology; Physical Education, Physiotherapy, Speech Therapy and Occupational Therapy; Nursing, Pharmacy, Public Health and Social Work; Medicine; Dentistry; History and Archeology; Anthropology, Sociology, Demography, Political Science and International Relations; Education and Teaching; and Philosophy.
The axis also has the categories of Religious Sciences and Theology; Geography and Geosciences; Psychology and Psychoanalysis; Public and Business Administration, Accounting and Tourism; Architecture, Urbanism, Design and Urban and Regional Planning; Communication and Information; Right; Economy; Arts; Literature, Linguistics and Literary Studies; Astronomy and Physics; Computer Science; Mathematics, Probability and Statistics; Chemistry and Materials; and Engineering.
