The Government of Cundinamarca assured that the Regiotram del Norte, known as the Zipaquirá train, will directly benefit more than 176,000 passengers dailys, improving travel times, regional connectivity and the quality of life of the inhabitants of the Northern Sabana.

The project advances after the signing of the co-financing agreement between the Government of Cundinamarca and the National Government, carried out last November 7, 2025, consolidating a key step for its structuring and implementation.

This electric and sustainable mobility system will reduce travel times between the Northern Sabana and Bogotá by up to 60%, improving regional productivity and reducing vehicle congestion.

The projected commercial speed will range between 30 and 80 km/h, with frequencies of 6.5 minutes during peak hours, allowing continuous, fast and safe transportation.

The total estimated investment amounts to $17.45 billion, financed 68.5% by the Nation, 17.8% by Cundinamarca and 13.2% for Bogotá.

An inter-institutional commitment to citizens

Representative Angélica Gómez stated that “The signing of this agreement is a decisive step in the search for real solutions for the mobility of the Northern Sabana… We deliver to Cundinamarca and the Zipaquirá train will be a reality.

During the signing of the agreement, Governor Jorge Rey pointed out that this project will move more than 176,000 passengers a day with fully electric technology, connecting Zipaquirá, Cajicá, Chía and Bogotá with integration to the Western RegioTram.

It will allow families from the Savannah to have more agile, dignified and safe trips even to the center of Bogotá, particularly the 26th Street and Caracas, and with the potential to reach the airport.”
