The regional governor of Ucayali, Manuel Gambini, questioned the government’s claim to Dina Boluarte to purchase 24 combat aircraft at a cost of US$3.5 billion, money that—he said—should be allocated to meeting the main demands in health, education and security.
“The central government is thinking about buying war planes. However, from the regional government we will demand that these resources be allocated to the Education, Health and Security sectors,” he said.
The statement by the regional authority took place after a meeting with representatives of the Unitary Union of Education Workers of Peru (Sutep) Ucayali base, who are holding an indefinite strike demanding that the government comply with the increase in remuneration for teachers and assistants and Salary deductions are cancelled, and security in educational institutions and the working conditions of teachers are improved.
“We are going to speak out together so that the Presidency of the Republic and the ministries better serve teachers. It is time to put unnecessary expenses aside,” said Gambini.
