Salto Airport inaugurated an air route that will connect that city with Montevideo

The first flight of the air route that will link Montevideo and Salto arrived on Tuesday the 8th at the Salto international airport, operated by the Paraguayan flag airline Paranair. The initiative will make it possible to end a period of more than 20 years without a direct connection between both locations and will also contribute to the tourism development and economic growth of the western coast, highlighted the Minister of Tourism, Eduardo Sanguinetti.

The event, held at the aforementioned terminal, was also attended by the Undersecretaries of Foreign Affairs, Nicolás Albertoni, and Transportation and Public Works, Juan José Olaizola. Also attending were members of the diplomatic corps and representatives of Uruguay and Paranair Airports, as well as authorities from the Uruguayan Air Force and the Government of Salto.

In statements to the press, Sanguinetti expressed that the implementation of the new route constitutes a connectivity milestone, which required the collaboration of different public and private institutions. In addition, he highlighted its importance for the country, in tourism, economic and social matters, for facilitating the consumption of tourist offers, promoting commercial and business ties, and bringing families together.

In addition, he stated that the Executive Branch is analyzing proposals to integrate commercial routes between Uruguayan airports and different cities in the region, such as Córdoba, Mendoza and Rosario, as well as various Brazilian towns.

Olaizola pointed out that “this is a government that has committed to connectivity” as a fundamental element for national development and in air matters, it has done so by promoting airports in the interior of the country, through a concessionaire.

Likewise, he referred to the “open skies” agreements established with the governments of Argentina, Paraguay and Chile, as instruments that will allow promoting connectivity. Currently, the national Executive is negotiating the creation of a similar agreement with Brazil.

The new air route between Montevideo and Salto is operated by the Paraguayan airline Paranair, it will offer two weekly frequencies, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and will use aircraft with capacity for 50 passengers. The estimated duration of the flight will be 50 minutes.
